Dave and I got some unexpected family shaking good news yesterday.
Our oldest granddaughter and her husband sent us a letter. I wasn’t home when the mail came, and Dave opened the envelope, and something fell out. He got to have his own unattended mini celebration. I came home from errands a bit later. He let me decompress from the morning stuff, then, when I was seated comfortably in my chair in the living room he said, “Come, there’s something I want to show you.”
He will ever receive kudos for his presentation.
We went in the kitchen and the mail was sitting on the counter. He said, “this came today.” So I picked up the envelope from granddaughter and husband and something strange fell out. It was a slick piece of paper with a photo on it. I couldn’t decipher the photo at all. Then I saw the handwriting on the bottom of the paper. It said, “Hey Great Grandparents!” I shrieked and waved the picture around for far more than the normal amount of celebration time for me.
We are going to be great grandparents in September. Well, the baby’s due date is 9/5 but said baby is already part of our family.
This is unexpected for a couple reasons. Although this baby’s mother is our oldest grandchild, she started a new career as a nurse a year ago, so I didn’t expect she would want to take time off so soon. The next two granddaughters are college graduates. One is still in school pursuing a doctorate and the other is an amazing introvert (she loved the covid shutdowns and stay at home edicts). The boys are all in school.
But on the other hand, this future mother and her husband have traveled the world, had amazing adventures and succeeded in so many ways. Maybe it’s not a surprise that they decided that this adventure of parenthood is the next step.
So there you have it. Turns out we will soon get to enjoy the status of Great Grandparenthood. I plan on much spoiling and purchasing of treasures for said child. The question of gender came up. Dave said he wants to be surprised. Not me. I have shopping trips planned with my partner in adventure, Judy. I will need to know. I may end up being the Spoiler in Chief.
When we talked with our granddaughter later that day, I assured her that I would be praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy and a problem free delivery. And I am. I regularly pray for my grandchildren and will add this little one to the list right away.
Dave and I are so happy and feel so blessed. Just wanted to share this with you.
Congratulations to you both. We didn't have children, so we miss out on all the excitement. Thanks for sharing!
